History of Mountain Park, Ga.

Before there was Lake Allatoona or Lake Lanier there was Mountain Park with Lake Garret and Lake Cherful. The wildlife refuge that honors the two-legged wildlife as much as the 4-legged. When you enter Mountain Park it is as if you journeyed back in time. Folklore of our area tells of the Creek and Cherokee traveling great distances to gather the medicinal waters from our seven streams. Then we entered the time of prohibition and moonshine. It was rumored that even Al Capone had ties with us. Now fast forward until today and we are a beautiful eclectic community dedicated to bringing our lakes back to balance. That's why the beer festival is donating a portion of it's proceeds to The Mountain Park Watershed Preservation Society. An organization also dedicated to returning our lakes to a healthier state of being.
